What happened at Accounting Live in 2017?
Last November saw the much-anticipated launch of Accounting Live at Glasgow’s SEC. The two-day event ran alongside The Scottish Business Exhibition on 1st and 2nd November and gave Scottish accountants and finance professionals a unique opportunity to discover the latest industry innovations and network with their peers.
More than eighty industry leading suppliers, including show partners Intuit QuickBooks and Microsoft, showcased their latest products and solutions to thousands of Scotland’s finance professionals.
The CPD accredited conference programme provided a comprehensive source of guidance and up-to-date information. With more than eighty seminars and workshops covering a vast range of topics including innovation, cloud accounting, pensions, digital tax, technology, legislation, growth and profitability. The impressive list of keynote speakers included:
- Gary Turner - Glasgow native and managing director at Xero UK
- Douglas Fraser - BBC Scotland’s Business and Economy Editor
- Alan Laing, Managing Director at Sage UK & Ireland
- Ed Molyneux - Co-founder of FreeAgent
- Steve Pipe - ‘The world’s most highly rated advisor to accountants’.
The keynote hall was packed with more than one hundred and fifty seated delegates, with many more crowded around from the show opening address to the final seminar. Xero UK’s Gary Turner explored the latest research into the changing landscape for accountants and small business owners. Alan Laing from Sage discussed how Scotland is becoming the promised ‘Nation with Ambition’. Another highlight was the ever-entertaining Steve Pipe, explaining how accountants can earn more and work less, with a simple three-step solution, and giving away free copies of his latest book ‘The World’s Most Inspiring Accountants’.
The show featured six interactive workshop halls covering vital industry topics including making tax digital, innovation and technology, international trade, the future of accounting and much more. The leading software providers also hosted valuable and educational demonstrations of the latest accounting and small business tools on their stands, provide insight, short-cuts and new skills to accountants keen to offer their customers up to date services.
The event attracted thousands of Scotland’s ambitious accountants and several hundred from south of the border too. Effectively marketed with the help of a broad range of partners including ACCA, Xero User Magazine, The Federation of Tax Advisers, The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, The Institute of Financial Accountants, The Charted Institute of Payroll Professionals, the Association of International Accountants and whole host of other associations and networking organisations the show was by far Scotland’s largest ever event of its kind. Accounting Live has already cemented its place on the Scottish business calendar, alongside the co-located Scottish Business Exhibition.
The event is back in 2018, supported by sage as the headline sponsor, featuring even more suppliers, associations, seminars, workshops and features. The event will be held over two days on 21st and 22nd November, again at The SEC, Glasgow. On the door, entry will be £20, but visitors can get their tickets for free by registering online now
